Which course/s did you study at Tallulah Rose and when?
The Ultimate Intimate Florist Hideaway and Sustainable Sympathy Flowers
What did you most enjoy about the courses?
The freedom and space to be able to explore our own floristry styles in a creative and supportive setting. Being inspired by other florists and growers on our courses and hearing about their floral journeys, their gifts and talents encouraged us to push ourselves further in our own creative work.
Where are you now on your floristry journey?
Next year will be our tenth year working as flower growers and floral designers, we have come a long way in those ten years but have honed both the growing side and floristry side of the business to where we want them to be. When you start out it is easy to say yes to everything, even if it isn’t the work you want to be doing, but we are at a place in our floristry journey now where we know what we want to be taking on and feel confident to say no to work we don’t want or doesn’t fit in with our ethos or style.
What is the best part of having your own floristry business?
The flexibility in having your own business is a blessing but having your own floristry business allows you to fully develop your own style and put out work that you believe in and want to be doing. It is also special to have customers who seek you out because they love what you do and want to work with you specifically.
What’s the best piece of advice Rachel gave you?
That your creativity has a value and not to underestimate its worth!
What’s been your floristry highlight to date?
We’ve had a few but probably providing flowers we had grown for King Charles’ Coronation!
Is there an opportunity that springs to mind that Tallulah Rose gave you the confidence to pursue?
How to approach and pursue larger scale weddings, not to be intimated by them but to embrace them and believe in our own abilities to pull them off!
What makes your business unique?
The fact we are two sisters running our business together may not be completely unique but does set us apart – we quite often get ‘oh those ginger flower sisters!’ We are able to provide a great balance with one of us focusing on the growing flowers side of the business, whilst the other focuses on the floristry. Having two of us working side by side in this way has certainly allowed us to pursue opportunities that we may not have otherwise been able to take on.
What is your favourite British flower and why?
Sweet peas – nostalgically British, ruffles for days and delicious scent.
