Student Stories

Florist – Bryonia

Jenna

Which course did you study at Tallulah Rose and when?

I undertook a two week career change course in May 2021

What did you enjoy most about the course?

So much of the course content was useful, and we all had plenty of fun across the two weeks.  I have written a more detailed Journal post about my experience here.

Where are you now on your floristry journey?

Bryonia specialises in creating natural, seasonal florals for weddings, events and workshops across the UK and beyond. We are based in Edinburgh, Scotland, with a secondary studio workshop in North West England.

What is the best part of having your own floristry business?

Flexibility is easily the best part of being self-employed. But the seasonality of flowers continuously keeps me interested and engaged in using this medium to create. From week to week, and even year to year, different combinations of ingredients are possible and it’s always such a delight to see what growers include in their harvests.

What’s the best piece of advice Rachel gave you?

To grow in confidence, build a community, and generally make the most of the adventure!

How have the contacts you made during your TRFS training helped with your business?

The flower community is golden. From growers, to freelancers and friends made. All of these contacts can help with ongoing support, future opportunities and generally just having someone to chat to who can completely relate.

Is there an opportunity that springs to mind that Tallulah Rose gave you the confidence to pursue?

Straight out of Tallulah, I was invited to work with Rachel on creating a piece for the RHS Tatton Park flower show, and this was definitely a highlight that I really enjoyed.

More details about the experience can be found by clicking here Tatton Park Flower Show

What makes your business unique?

Every floristry business is unique, simply by the wonderful individual people who are behind the scenes pulling everything together and making it work. I find that being authentic to your own ethos, values and pursuing what sets you apart are all great ways to remain unique in the busy floral industry.

What is your favourite British flower and why?

It’s too hard to decide on just one! But my favourites would have to include ranunculus, foxies, sweet peas, roses and any scented climbers, like honeysuckle and jasmine.
