Historically, ‘The Auld Grey Town’ was one of the most important woollen textile centres in the country, producing ‘Kendal Green’ and other ‘Kendal cottons’ – its numerous yards were once filled with workshops processing cloth, leather and food products. Also known for its shoe making, carpet and snuff manufacture, but mostly for the production of the Kendal Mint cake!

Rich in culture Kendal and its surrounding area have numerous galleries, museums, historic houses and arts centres which are definitely worth a visit.
