Florist – Blume

Elspeth Tull

Which course did you study at Tallulah Rose and when?
I did the 4 week career change course back in June 2018

What did you most enjoy about the course?
I was able to switch off from everything for 4 weeks and just immerse myself in flowers. I’d had a really tricky 6 months and it was the perfect escapism for me, I learnt about myself if anything. I also formed some amazing friendships, I still keep in contact with the other Tallulah’s on my course and we help and support each other every day.

What was the most important thing that you learnt during your time at school?
I learnt that there is no such thing as ‘bad flowers’. That you can create something which undoubtedly someone will love, but if they don’t, that’s fine…it is down to personal taste. Because of this, I grew in confidence. Rachel and the team at Tallulah have a way of making you feel like you can conquer anything.

What was your first big break?
I created flowers for the Mary Poppins premiere at the end of last year. It was for an influencer lunch held at the Rosewood Hotel. My flowers were pictured with the likes of Emily Blunt, Lin Manuel Mirander, Emma Gannon and Jo Elvin.

What are you doing now?
Blume is going from strength to strength, I’ve got a diary full of weddings this year, as well as events and workshops! I’m hoping to start selling ready made bouquets soon too.

Describe a typical floristry day..
My typical day will be heading to New Covent Garden Flower Market at the crack of dawn to browse an abundance of amazing flowers with a flat white in hand, I’ll then head to my studio in Brixton, get arranging and hand deliver them to their destination!

What’s been your highlight to date?
The Mary Poppins event definitely!

What advice would you give to a new student starting out?
Believe in yourself, don’t hold back and absorb everything you can! Enjoy it, you’ll learn loads about yourself, as well as flowers.
