We’ll break for lunch each day and enjoy views over lake Windermere. Each day we’ll have business huddles to  discuss the business of business! Quoting and costing, the logistics of large-scale wedding work, hiring freelancers, transportation and set up along with social media and photography – the dos and don’ts! We’ll enjoy a relaxing dinner together each evening, we’re in the very safe culinary hands of Julian Ankers, The Cumbrian Chef.

On our final day we’ll down tools at 3pm to celebrate with a tea and cake! We’ll present everyone with a Tallulah Rose Flower School certificate and give you all the opportunity for any final questions before we depart at 4pm.

Wedding Flowers… Everything You Need To Know

This brand new course is designed to give you the confidence to shine! We’ve dissected each aspect of planning a wedding from start to finish in order that we incorporate it into our four day Weddings. Everything You Need to Know

Taking place in July we’ll be using an abundance of British flowers and foliage. Forever seeking sustainable alternatives we show you, through our trial and error, the very best way to wow your clients whilst satisfying your eco ethos. We realise that the practical side of wedding floristry is of course vital, after all your flowers do the selling, however we know that most often its the planning and logistics that flummox you the most. We’ve addressed this and included in our course a one day business session with The Florist Society. If you don’t already know The Florist Society then pay them a visit on Instagram now! Founded by Jess, Tiger by the Tail and Esther, Rebel and the Rose these incredible creative women have started something big (in business!) During this business day we’ll cover… finding your ideal client, marketing you and your business and your wedding pricing bible.

We’re also very aware of your anxieties when it comes to on the day logistics, the simple act of packing and protecting your flowers sends shivers down your spine! So we’re going to pack up a van with your kit, your flowers and if there’s room you too! There is no ‘one size fits all’ solution when it comes to packing a vehicle but hopefully we can simplyfy things for you, throwing in a few top tips to calm your nerves.

We’ll take you to a church where, as a team, we’ll create an archway. This is a logistic exercise and although the archway will be captured for all time by our incredible photographer Jessica Reeve the importance of this exercise is the logistics of setting up and making an archway safe, before taking it down again!

Talking photography Jess will join us on each of our practical days ensuring you have professional images of your work as well as the hundreds of shots I’m sure you’ll take yourself! We have an abundance of great backdrops here at Levens Hall however we’ll take you all into the world famous magical topiary gardens where Jess will capture your bridal bouquets with a professional model ensuring that perfect Instagram shot!

We hope out course sounds just right for you and your development needs. If you have floristry experience, perhaps you’ve completed a wedding or two yourself or worked alongside another florist then this course will fill you with confidence. If you’re a complete beginner then we advise taking our introductory course or career change course prior to undertaking this particular course, you’ll gain so much more from this course if you do. We will be hosting this course again so there’s no need to panic!

If you keep on scrolling you’ll see an itinary day by day. Please note that with the exception of our business day we may shuffle days around depending on the July weather forecast.

Tallulahs Take Over Tallulah with Elspeth the founder of Blume.

As part of our ‘Tallulahs takes over Tallulah’ series we invite Elspeth the founder of Blume to host a day with us here at Tallulah Rose Flower School.

Jess joins us in October when our British dahlia obsession is strong! With a background in fashion and interior design Elspeth understands the seasonal approach and the changing nature of creativity; which is why floristry is such a perfect calling for her!

Elspeth has diligently and carefully built her unique style, which now lives across the entire Blume concept; from bunches and homewares, to weddings and gifts. Situated in South London the Blume Studio Store offers flowers, homewares and gifts to lift the soul!

Blume Bunches have become something of an iconic addition to the Blume story and Elspeth is here to show you just how it’s done, complete with layers of beautiful packaging too! Elspeth has created Blume Bunches for Gucci and Dior so there’s no denying their love!

There’s more to a Blume Bunch than meets the eye and Elspeth is here to lead you through the process. Colour is really important to Elspeth and her designs. She is heavily influenced by the season, interiors and fashion and will talk to you about the importance of choosing a colour palette for your Blume Bunch.

After you have created your arrangement we’ll break for lunch giving you the opportunity to take a walk in the grounds here at Levens Hall or the nearby deer park. You can sample the home cooked delights that Levens Kitchen have to offer choosing to eat alfresco by the cafe, by the river or within the deer park. Picnics are available by pre ordered from Levens Kitchen.

After lunch you’ll return to school where Elspeth will demonstrate her beautifully styled table centre allowing you time to ask Elspeth questions about how her business has grown since graduating from Tallulah Rose.

Tallulahs Take Over Tallulah with Jess Runciman founder of Fluoresse

As part of our ‘Tallulahs takes over Tallulah’ series we invite Jess Runciman, founder of Fluoresse, to host a day with us here at Tallulah Rose Flower School.

Jess joins us in July when British summer blooms will be in full swing! With a background in art and design Jess came to floristry after 12 years in fashion including styling, international retail and PR.

Since launching her business in 2018 Jess has been able to explore collaborative projects with various brands including Selfridges, Dr. Martins, Rixo, New Balance and END Clothing.

During the morning of this one one day course with Jess you will create your own floral sculpture using a hand crafted vessel, a pin holder and wire. Jess says…

‘The arrangements or sculptures are artworks in their own right and showcase colour, texture and form. People can go as bright, dark, neutral or sludgy [new fave word!] as they like. There’s no right or wrong and it doesn’t need to be ‘pretty’. The arrangements will feature lots of different textures, depths, sprayed foliages and some wiggly rogue stems doing their own thing. It’s more about using and placing the flowers intuitively, experimenting and making something impactful’.

After lunch you’ll return to school where Jess will demonstrate how she paints and decorates foliage and will show you how to create a painted ombre effect as well as stencilling too. Jess will talk you through working to a client brief for example a PR company that requires brand colours or a focal arrangement for an event.

Jess photographs a lot of her work herself because the final image is as much a creative process as the arrangements themselves. Jess say’s ‘visual identity is really important to me and I love that it’s always evolving, often through trial, error and happy accidents’!

Your arrangement, including the vessel, is yours to take away and enjoy. Please also note that lunch isn’t included in your course fee however refreshments throughout the day are.

We have limited place numbers to six on this course allowing plenty of opportunity to speak to, and learn from Jess and Rachel, the founder of Tallulah Rose Flower School.

Course Price – £350

Sustainable Floristry with Fiona Pickles

As part of our Sustainable Floristry Series we are delighted to welcome Fiona Pickles from Firenza Flowers to Levens Hall.

Fiona will bring her expertise to the world famous topiary gardens of Levens Hall demonstrating her expertise for sustainable large scale installations.

Here’s what Fiona has to say about sustainable floristry methods..

I am very keen to devise different mechanics and techniques to use as an alternative to floral foam. Foam does not degrade and just ends up in land fill and the small bits of foam that break off whilst soaking it, end up in the sea if tipped down our sinks and drains to be ingested by fish and other marine life. I teach foam-free classes to other florists wishing to reduce their dependence on this floristry ‘staple’.

We’ll be using the beautiful British blooms grown by Suzie from Picked at Dawn. Suzie will be with us for ‘growers chat’ too.

Your day will begin with an inspirational tour of Levens topiary gardens and after watching Fiona you’ll have chance to create small installation using Fiona’s sustainable methods. Rachel and Fiona will be on hand to help and guide you.

Course Price – £350

2 Week Career Change Course

Our 2 week Intensive Career Change Course is full to bursting with both the practical and business skills you require to launch your own creative floristry business. Working from the basic to the advanced we take you from hand-tied bouquets through to large scale installations. It is our will that you find your own creative style of floristry and in order that we promote this within your practise you’ll find that we don’t demonstrate our designs fully. If we do this you will simply copy and be less likely to grow in confidence as quickly as we need you too. We do of course lead and guide you through your practical peice however, we encourage you to find your own way resulting in a style that’s true to you. We always provide an abundance of the most beautiful flowers, British and local when possible for you to work with. We lead the way showing you how to choose your flowers, what to look for and most importantly what they’re called! It is vital for your confidence that you choose your own flowers, we won’t be there post course to choose for you and of course it also means that your arrangement will be individual too – just like you!

Alongside the practical elements we also help you to build the skills required to start your new creative business. Included in these skills are photography, branding, marketing, social media, business start up skills and a group business coaching session. Once you have completed your course with us you are invited to join our closed Tallulah Rose Student Forum. Here you will be welcomed by former Tallulah students all willing to help and support you through those early days and beyond ! We also have a Tallulah Freelance Floristry page where you’ll find intern, work experience and job opportunities too.

We are often asked ‘what is the difference between the 2 and 4 week course?’ Our 2 week course was written four years ago, initially at the request of school teachers wanting to learn during the summer holidays, it was so successful that we continued! We can’t squeeze everything into two weeks, however after years of experience we know exactly what elements we need to teach in order that you have both the skills and the confidence to launch your own florist business. You can see from our Student Stories that many have indeed done just that!

Without stating the obvious, that we have you for two weeks less, the main differences between the courses are; business skills – you are given exactly the same information that is included within our 4 week course however we simply don’t have the time to discuss all the business modules in such great detail, two days versus five. We use our time together wisely however and choose the modules that are most beneficial discussed within a group environment, for example, ideas to market your business and where to see your floristry services.

Practical skills – you have eight days of practical floristry on our 2 week Career Change Course and fourteen days on our 4 week course. The additional days on our 4 week course cover planning, purchasing and designing your own small event along with additional large scale installation work. If completing our 2 week course is your only option please don’t panic, we’ll ensure that you leave armed with all the skills you need to set you on your way. Remember too that you can always return to add bolt on days or short courses as and when you feel you need them.

Everyone is awarded a certificate on completion of the course however as we mentioned above it’s not goodbye! Team Tallulah and our former students are always there for you as you leave the safety of school and launch your own florist business.

NB. All tools and equipment required to complete the course are provided for you and any vessel you use during the course is yours to *keep. A Tallulah Rose apron is given to you on your first day of school and is yours to take away after you have completed the course. We have a wide range of books that you may borrow during your time with us and we don’t require that you buy any books ahead of your course however we do recommend The British Flowers book by Claire Brown. This book will become your flower bible and worth every penny – and no we’re not paid to say that! This book will help you to become familiar with not only flower names but their seasons too.

*excluding any hired items or items belonging to the school.

If you scroll down the page you’ll see the breakdown of both practical and business skills included within this two week course.

Each week consists of tuition from Monday to Friday. Class starts at 10.00am and finishes at 4.30pm.

Course Price – £2850
A deposit payment of £500 is required to secure your place. The final payment must be received  six weeks prior to your chosen course date.

Please note that whilst we are adjusting to life alongside Covid-19 our class size will be reduced to a maximum of 8 students.

Please read our Payments, Cancellations & Refunds Policy prior to booking.
